A Moscow Mule co*cktail is sweet and tart with a touch of mint. If it's well-mixed, the flavor of the vodka should be very mild. But don't overdo it when you're drinking Moscow Mules! Even if you can't taste it, the vodka packs a punch because of its high ABV.
To make the Moscow Mule, combine your vodka, lime juice, ginger syrup and ginger ale in a small pitcher. Make sure to stir well. Pour it over ice and garnish with a bit of fresh mint. To ensure a stronger mint flavor, smash the mint leaves in the bottom of the mug before drinking!

The Russian Mule, also known as the Moscow Mule, is a co*cktail that has been around for decades. There are a couple of stories that explain how it came into existence, but one of the most popular ones has its origins in Los Angeles.
While the classic Moscow Mule recipe calls for vodka, and was in fact one of the main reasons vodka became popular in North America, other mule drinks use rum, gin, whisky, tequila, or even brandy—ginger beer can be a great complement to any liquor!
And bar proprietors are changing the names of their co*cktails to make it clear what side they're on: In many places, the Moscow Mule is now the Kyiv Mule. In at least one bar, it's the Snake Island Mule, a reference to the Ukrainian territory where border guards made a defiant last stand against invading troops.
Moscow mule purists know that tradition isn't the only reason the drink is served in a copper mug: The cold metal insulates the temperature of the chilled ginger beer, keeping the co*cktail cool and refreshing. Some experts say that the mug enhances the individual flavors of the ginger beer, vodka, and lime.
A Moscow Mule may be shaken, but only before adding the ginger beer. Once you've added carbonation, shaking the drink will negatively affect the drink, and you'll have to start again. That's why you should invest the right bartender tools, and you can stir the drink instead.
Kentucky Mule: The difference between a Moscow Mule and a Kentucky Mule is that you substitute bourbon for the vodka. Still a great choice, and just comes down to what your favorite liquors are!
A study published in the January/February issue of the Journal of Environmental Health found that copper leaches into the drink made of ginger beer, lime juice, and vodka. In a little under half an hour, the copper levels rise higher than the safety standard set for drinking water.
