Chris Pratt 'devastated' as Guardians of the Galaxy co-star dies aged just 47 (2024)

Chris Pratt revealed he was “devastated” to learn about the death of his “friend and former stunt double,” Antonio “Tony” McFarr.

The pair previously worked together on Marvel’s hit film series Guardians of the Galaxy and 2015’s Jurassic World.

McFarr’s family revealed he was found dead at his Florida home on Monday as his mother, Donna confirmed the tragedy to TMZ.

She called his loss "unexpected and shocking” and described her son as “active and healthy”. According to the outlet, the Orange County Medical Examiner is still awaiting toxicology results.

Pratt paid tribute to the star with a moving post on his Instagram story that read: “Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr.

“We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set."

The actor shared memories, reflecting on his “toughness” after taking “a nasty shot to the head” and needing “several staples” but he got “right back to work ready to go again.”

He added: "He was always a gentleman and professional. He'll be missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter."

Since getting his start in the industry in 2011, McFarr has graced the screens in some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters.

He landed his first major credits in 2012 on projects including Homeland, Teen Wolf and the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. McFarr went on to star in Furious 7, The Accountant and Captain America: Civil War.

Throughout his career, he developed a friendship with Pratt who he worked with first on the Jurassic World adaptation in 2015.

As well as his movie roles, McFarr was a successful restaurateur and owner of Reel Bowls poké bar and The Fit Kitchen, which he owned with his wife, Thais McFarr.
