Drake Bell Reveals Where He Stands With Amanda Bynes (2024)

Drake Bell, who worked with Amanda Bynes on ‘All That’ and ‘The Amanda Show,’ has spoken out, revealing whether he and the actress still communicate.

Bell, 37, began working alongside Bynes when ‘The Amanda Show’ premiered in 1999 and continued as co-stars until its finale in 2002.

Now, years later, Bell is revealing whether he still speaks to the actress.

When appearing on Access Hollywood, the actor was asked if he has kept up with Bynes; Bell admitted, “I haven’t spoken to Amanda in many, many years.”

Bell added that it's "unfortunate because we had such a great connection on the show."

"When I first started working with her on ‘The Amanda Show,’ I grew up with her on ‘All That,’ so getting to work on ‘The Amanda Show,’ I felt like I was getting to work with Gilda Radner. This is incredible she’s a huge star to me at 12 years old, and then working together, we had an instant connection, and we were able to establish and create wonderful characters together,” Bell continued. “We played off each other so well. We ended up having a really great bond working together and I learned so much from her.”

“I mean, the talent just oozed out of her, and there was something that I saw from Amanda that was just so intriguing and impressive,” he recalled of the former Nickelodeon actress. “It’s so rare in this industry [to find] someone like Dean Martin, like Elvis, like Lucille Ball. It’s this effortless, you know, some people are funny, but you can see them working, and with [Amanda] it was like Lucille Ball. It was just natural.”

When speaking on how Amanda Bynes is doing today, Bell admitted, “It’s really difficult [to know] because [of] the media spin," and actors and actresses "are subject to a narrative that people put out there that really isn't the truth and were all victims of it.”

“Unfortunately, we've chosen a profession that puts us in that position, so I take with a grain of salt what gets the clicks and what people know will get them views,” he added.

In the docuseries, ‘Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV,’ which was released in March, many former Nickelodeon cast and crew came forward, revealing what it was really like working for the network.

Some of the former actors and actresses claimed Dan Schneider, who produced many popular 90s shows, created a toxic work environment and played into favoritism and racism. But the biggest bombshell that was dropped during the docuseries was when Drake Bell came forward, revealing he is a victim of sexual assault at the hands of Brian Peck, who has no relation to Bell’s former co-star Josh Peck.

In the third episode of the docuseries, viewers watched as Bell sat down in a chair and said, “My name is Drake Bell, and I came here today to tell my story.”

“You know, anytime I had an audition, or anytime I needed to work on dialogue or anything, I somehow ended up back at Brian [Peck]’s house,” Bell said of his time leading up to ‘Drake & Josh,’ but “everything changed with Brian one morning."

“I was sleeping on the couch where I would usually sleep. I woke up to him — I opened my eyes, I woke up and he was sexually assaulting me. I froze and was in complete shock and had no idea what to do or how to react, and I have no idea how to get out of this situation,” Bell, who was 15 at the time of the incident, said.

Bell added that he “was just trapped" and "had no way out."

“The abuse was extensive and it got pretty brutal. I don’t know how to elaborate on that on camera, really,” Bell continued. “Why don’t you think of the worst stuff that someone could do to somebody as a sexual assault, and then I’ll answer your question. I don’t know how else to put it.”

While many former Nickelodeon stars, including Josh Peck, Alexa Nikolas, and Matthew Underwood, spoke out about the docuseries after its release, Amanda Bynes has remained quiet.
