This Grasshopper co*cktail is the perfect blend of crème de menthe, crème de cocoa, and half and half. It’s smooth, minty, chocolatey, and makes a great after dinner drink.

Have you ever tried grasshopper pie? This is the sweet, sippable version of that mint chocolate dessert.

In fact, a grasshopper co*cktail uses a few of the same ingredients as the pie. Both have crème de menthe liqueur, some type of cream, like heavy cream or half and half, and chocolate.

To make this the ultimate dessert co*cktail, top it with homemade whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

You could even add some ice cream to this grasshopper drink, and it would taste just like a boozy mint chocolate milkshake!

How to make a grasshopper co*cktail:

Making a grasshopper co*cktail couldn’t be easier. You’ll need a drink shaker or something similar.

A double jigger works well to measure the ingredients, but a measuring cup that measures ounces also works well. Grab a small co*cktail glass or other small drinking glass to serve the drink.

Start by placing a handful of ice into a drink shaker. Pour in the crème de menthe, crème de cocoa, and half and half.

Swirl the shaker gently to mix the ingredients, then strain into a chilled co*cktail glass. Enjoy immediately or top the grasshopper co*cktail with whipped cream.

What are some garnish options for a grasshopper drink?

Whipped Cream
Mini Chocolate Chips
Chocolate Syrup
Andes Mints
Chocolate Sprinkles
Chocolate Rim with Crushed Mint Oreos
Fresh Mint Leaves
Chocolate Whipped Cream
Chocolate Mint Chips

How do you make a grasshopper drink with ice cream?

Depending on the size of the drink, you may need to increase the amount of crème de menthe, crème de cocoa, and dairy.

Here’s aGrasshopper co*cktail recipethat uses only 3 ingredients and one of them is ice cream!

Why do you recommend swirling the drink instead of shaking?

This drink contains dairy. Whether you use heavy cream, half and half, or milk; there’s most likely going to be dairy in this drink.

When the dairy is added to the drink shaker with ice, the fat in the dairy has the possibility of sticking to the ice causing the dairy to separate.

The possibility increases when the drink is shaken as opposed to being gently swirled. If you see smalls specks of white on the ice cubes, that’s the fat from the dairy.

Can you use Kahlua in place of crème de cocoa?

Kahlua is a coffee liqueur while crème de cocoa is exactly as it sounds, a cocoa flavored liqueur. Both have subtle notes of vanilla, but each have distinct flavors.

Kahlua will work as a substitute in a grasshopper drink, but there will be more of a coffee flavor instead of the intended mint chocolate flavor.

What is a substitute for half and half?

Whole milk or heavy cream will work in place of the half and half. A milk alternative will also work, but the consistency of the drink will change slightly.
