More than 3K customers without power as strong storms cross Alabama (2024)

WE’VE GOT SOME RAIN OUT THERE THIS MORNING. RAIN CHANCES WILL BE FAIRLY HIGH AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, WITH AREAS OF RAIN, MAYBE A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER TOO. AND THEN I THINK WE’LL START TO SEE COVERAGE KIND OF DECREASE A BIT BY THE MIDDLE AND LATTER PART OF THE MORNING, AND THEN PROBABLY PICK BACK UP WITH A FEW WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS AS WE GET INTO THIS AFTERNOON. BOTTOM LINE IS, JUST BE PREPARED. MAYBE HAVE THAT UMBRELLA HANDY THROUGH THE DAY WITH SOME OCCASIONAL SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS. A LOT MORE HUMID. I KNOW IT’S BEEN HORRIBLY HOT. WE’VE HAD 14 DAYS OF TEMPERATURES IN THE 90S AND TRIPLE DIGITS NOW WITH THE CLOUDS AND SOME OF THE RAIN AROUND THE THE HIGH SHOULD HOVER CLOSE TO 94 TODAY. SO DEFINITELY NOT AS HOT AS IT HAS BEEN. THERE’S A LOOK AT THE RADAR AND YOU CAN SEE WE’VE GOT A LARGE AREA OF RAIN. THERE ARE SOME POCKETS OF HEAVIER DOWNPOURS TO MOST OF WHAT WE’RE SEEING ON THE MAP, THOUGH, IS JUST SOME LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN. WE’VE GOT A COUPLE OF HEAVIER SHOWERS THERE THAT ARE HEADING TOWARD HOOVER, KIND OF FROM THE SOUTH AND WEST, AND SOME OF THAT WILL CLIP ALABASTER AND PELHAM AND THEN KIND OF THAT STRETCH OF I 65 AND THEN EVEN DOWN INTO PARTS OF BIBB COUNTY, TOO. WE’VE GOT SOME PRETTY HEAVY RAIN FALLING THERE OVER TOWARD VINCENT. AND THAT STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 280. MOST OF WHAT WE’RE SEEING THERE IS JUST SOME LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN. AND THEN ANOTHER DECENT HEAVY SHOWER THERE MOVING OFF TO THE NORTH AND EAST. AND EVENTUALLY THAT WILL BE HEADING INTO WESTERN JEFFERSON OR SHELBY COUNTIES. ALL RIGHT. SO SOME OCCASIONAL SHOWERS, A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER POSSIBLE THROUGH THE DAY TODAY WE’VE GOT THIS UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE THAT’S GOING TO CONTINUE TO MEANDER AND TAKE ITS TIME MOVING THROUGH THE AREA TODAY AND INTO TOMORROW, FRIDAY AFTERNOON COVERAGE OF STORMS LOOKS PRETTY LIMITED, BUT I CAN’T RULE OUT A FEW STORMS FROM DEVELOPING. AND THEN THEY’LL JUST BE SO MUCH HEAT AND HUMIDITY AROUND OVER THE WEEKEND THAT WILL STILL KEEP IN THE CHANCE FOR A FEW WIDELY SCATTERED STORMS ON SATURDAY, AND THEN ON SUNDAY. IT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL PUSH THROUGH THE AREA AND SO I THINK COVERAGE COULD BE FAIRLY DECENT LATER IN THE DAY. SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT, AND THEN WE GET A DIP IN OUR HUMIDITY. THE HUMIDITY DROPS ACTUALLY A BIT BY EARLY NEXT WEEK AND SO YOU’LL NOTICE THE IMPACT SYMBOLS ON THE PLANNER, MAINLY FOR THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY OVER THE WEEKEND. ON SATURDAY, THOSE HEAT INDEX VALUES EXPECTED TO NEAR 105 IN SOME SPOTS AND WE’LL SEE MORE OF THE SAME ON SUNDAY, TWO HOT NEXT WEEK, BUT THE HUMIDITY DROPS OFF JUST A BIT. BACK T
